L&L Levels & Lines At King Arts Complex Jan. 24th at 8:00pm The King Arts Complex presents Kristina Isabelle Dance Company in Levels & Lines, a breathtaking mix of art, multidimensional dance-scapes, human form, and layers of music and video projections, presented in the historic Pythian Theater at The King Arts Complex January 24th at 8pm. Levels & Lines is developed to be a series of long-legged dance-scapes that ultimately create a large-scale moving painting on the proscenium stage. Originally inspired by abstract-expressionist artist, Joan Mitchell, whose work at first seems to be purely abstract in form but also layered with texture and emotional tone. Isabelle utilizes stilts as a catalytic vehicle to extend performance space, alter perspective, experiment with scale and proportion, and play with symbolism and metaphors. The stilt works are themselves creating a new movement form. Stilt dancing is high art. "Isabelle appears without physical limits as a movement artist weather on the ground or above it" Columbus Dispatch. Levels & Lines pushes what is physically possible with attachments to the legs as well as the dynamic partnering potential with dancers on the ground. As highlighted by Maggie Page and Ricky Morant's breathtakingly beautiful duet with Ms. Page in pointe shoes and Mr. Morant on stilts which, "displays an intriguing mixture of tradition and adventure," by combining ballet movements in a fluid almost natural movement form. Each new version of Levels & Lines like a painter's canvas has evolved and been altered by the particular cast involved as well as the various collaborators such as the lighting designer, video creator and costumer. Shawn Hove has colored our backdrop with videos of shifting color and light. Carrie Cox distinctive lighting design accentuates the ever-changing dynamic environment. The atmospheric music features some of the most innovative electronic musicians today including: Four Tet, Susumu Yokota, DJ Spooky, Little People, Cylob, and Barbara Morgenstern. Grimaldi Circus KidsFranklin Park Conservatory On December 28th we performed at the Franklin Park Conservatory. A wonderful and beautiful backdrop for The Waltz, The Uneven Tango performed by Jessica McKelvey, Kristina Isabelle and Eoin O'Brien. and a Carnival performed by the Grimaldi Circus Kids under the direction of Eoin and Kristina. The kids did a fabulous job at the Conservatory. Three days later The Grimaldi Circus Kids performed at Vets Memorial for The First Night New Years festivities, which brought the audience to their feet as they joined us in a conga line. Dr. Danga Grimaldi Circus Exhibtion Fantastique returns to The Fisher Theater at Columbus Dance Theater February 20th and 21st at 8pm and Sunday Feb. 22nd at 2:00pm. A full evening of the creative world of Eoin O'Brien. The show will include daring aerialists, clowns galore, sideshow, dancing puppets, long-legged parades and so much more.
